Review of Part One in October
Edition of Shipping Today and Yesterday
"Crossing the Oceans
Video Produced by Joe Clark
Available from Nextnorth Ltd. 71 High Street, Linton, Cambs
CB1 6HS
Video duration around 65 minutes
This video is described as a voyage into the past of the great
ocean liners and Part One certainly lives up to this claim.
There are views of some 23 British passenger liners from the
1950's and 1960's owned by P&O, Orient Lines, British India
S.N.Co. and the New Zealand Shipping Co.
The ships range from those built pre-war to the Canberra and
Oriana, and there are some very famous passenger ships - such
as the Orion, Oronsay, Carthage, Stratheden, Chusan, Nevasa,
Uganda and the Rangitata and Ruahine.
If your interest is liners, this video will be an absolute delight.
Nextnorth Ltd state for every copy of this video sold, £1
will be donated to the Missions to Seafarers."

"Crossing the Oceans
DVD Produced by Nextnorth Ltd.
Over the years there have probably been many miles
of amateur cine film shot on board ocean liners as well as capturing
vessels departing and arriving at docks and harbours around
the world.
Unfortunately much of this footage has been lost
but thanks to the dedication of companies such as Nextnorth,
a lot survives today, albeit presented in a different format.
This DVD, containing 70 minutes of remastered
cine film, shows ships en route to Australia and the East. The
earliest shots are taken in the 1930's while the majority comes
from the 1950's ans 60's. Part one in a three part series, this
DVD features ships of the Orient Line, British India Line and
New Zealand Shipping Company."

Review of Part Two in Shipping

CROSSING THE OCEANS: A Voyage into the Past of
the Great Ocean Liners
Video and DVD produced by Joe Clark and Nextnorth. Distributed
by Nextnorth Ltd, 71 High Street, Linton, Cambs CB1 6HS; 63
minutes running time.
With the old Queen Mary in financial trouble in
the U.S.,it is a bit sad to see the fine liner leaving Southampton
for the last time as she heads for a new start in Long Beach,
California.
But this is just one of many scenes in this video
and DVD, taken from old film, that will bring back the memories
of the great liners.
This is 63 minutes of pure nostalgia with a feast
of Cunard, Union Castle Line and Canadian Pacific passenger
ships among many. In total, this video and DVD features 37 ships.
It starts with those in the trans-Atlantic trade
and then looks at the ships that served Africa, and includes
ships of Shaw Savill and Royal Mail Lines, and it ends with
some rare film of British troopships.
This will certainly evoke times when, to many, the large passenger
ships were 'proper ships' so unlike the 'floating hotels' of
today.

The ships feature in a 65-minute DVD/video made
by former seafarer Joe Clark from rare amateur footage
of the vessels in their heyday.
For every copy sold, £1 is being donated
to the Mission. So far £300* has been raised

54 minutes running time.
This third episode in the series features

Henry and the Manchester Spinner.
But the bulk of the video looks at some
of the famous passenger ships that sailed under the ownership
of companies in Italy, France, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands,
Norway and Sweden.
There are nearly 40 passenger ships featured
including a large number that served British owners and
were sold for further trading - some of them will be unrecognisable
under their new owners.
The featured ships include: from Italy,
the ships include the classic Cristoforo Colombo, Leonardo
da Vinci and the Galileo Galilei as well as several Sitmar
liners; from Greece, there are the Australis, Ellinis,
and Queen Federica among others; the Nieuw Amsterdam and
Oranje are included from the Netherlands; included from
Germany are the Hanseatic and Volkerfreundschaft; while
