Hanseatic was purchased by the Hamburg
Atlantik Line from the Canadian Pacific Line in 1958.
Launched in 1930 as the Empress of Japan, she orginally
had three funnels and served as a troopship during the
war when she was renamed the Empress of Scotland for obvious
reasons. She served for ten years on the Liverpool - Quebec
service before her sale to Hamburg Atlantik. Her new owners
substantially rebuilt the ship and placed her on the Cuxhaven
- New York service. She was badly damaged by fire in New
York in 1966, towed to Hamburg for repairs but subsequently
scrapped.
A head-on shot of Hanseatic approaching
an unknown port. There are clear views of the exhaust
extensions on her funnels - added shortly before the fire
that ended her career.

We believe this is the fourth "Hamburg"
to sail for the Hamburg American Line. She was launched
in 1954, sold to Malaysian owners in 1966 and renamed
the Oriental Warrior.
We join Hamburg with a family returning
to Europe from Singapore. There are good scenes of on-board
life including loading cargo and entertainments for the
young children.

Some excellent shots of this famous
motorship berthed in Tilbury awaiting passengers for her
